Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder that primarily affects motor control. It is caused by the degeneration of dopamine-producing neurons in the brain, which leads to hallmark symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, bradykinesia (slowness of movement), and postural instability. The disease also impacts non-motor functions, leading to cognitive decline, mood disorders, and autonomic dysfunction. Parkinson’s can take years or even decades to develop visible motor symptoms.
